  1. Cover. What Did You Ask For? The Work Before the Work, a Masitus story. Series: What AI Asks of You, Episode 1. Side by side, Neha and Priya sit with their backs to us, each facing a screen showing an AI chat with the same message: “Can you help me with this?”
  2. Neha’s AI chat. With a draft email attached, she asks: “Make this email sound more professional.” The AI replies: “Here’s a more polished version. Subject: Next steps on your renewal. Hi Daniel, Thank you for your time last week. I’d like to confirm the next steps and make sure everything is on track on your side. Best regards, Neha.” Neha smiles at her screen. Neha uses AI the way most people start: to polish things.
  3. Priya’s AI chat. She attaches three files, Q3 incidents for July, August and September, and asks: “Compare our Q3 incident reports and draft a reliability plan for next quarter. Focus on repeat causes, an owner for each workstream, and a timeline we can actually hit.” The AI returns a Q4 Reliability Plan: 1, cut alert noise on checkout services; 2, weekly incident reviews with clear owners; 3, monthly database failover drills. Timeline: 12 weeks, owners assigned per workstream. Priya studies her screen. Priya uses AI for serious work.
  4. Neha and Priya, side by side behind their laptops, both beaming. Both got exactly what they asked for.
  5. Neha’s week. Neha smiles at her screen, where her email to Brightwell Retail, “Next steps on your renewal”, is marked Sent. Above her, out of her sight, float three open support tickets from Brightwell Retail: order exports failing; invoices not syncing; still waiting on a reply. Beside them, an email to her colleague: Brightwell Retail, concerns about renewal pricing. The email she polished was to a customer quietly getting ready to leave.
  6. Priya’s week. Priya smiles at her Q4 Reliability Plan, which names an owner for each workstream: alert noise, Arun; incident reviews, Meera; DB failover drills, Kiran. Above her, out of her sight, floats a message from a thread in #eng-planning: “Moving Arun and Meera to the payments project from Tuesday.” Priya’s plan was excellent, but two of the people it counted on had already been moved off her team.
  7. Neha looks at her sent renewal email, with a thought bubble above her: “Is my account at risk?” Priya looks at her plan, with a thought bubble above her: “Is my plan on track?” The most valuable questions were the ones neither of them thought to ask.
  8. The same morning, with Masitus. Neha’s morning brief shows a risk on her largest account: “Customer retention at risk: Brightwell Retail. Three open support tickets and a pricing complaint this week.” It is tagged 3 tickets and Pricing complaint, with the button See what’s going on. Priya’s morning brief shows a risk on her team: “Q4 reliability plan execution at risk. Two workstream owners, Arun and Meera, moved to the payments project on Tuesday.” It is tagged Arun, Meera and From Tue, with the button Reassign owners.
